PRESS NOTE
Beyond Prospectus ABHYASA INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL LAUNCHES A UNIQUE PARENTS AND STUDENTS HANDBOOK Hyderabad, May 14… Prospectus is a disclosure document. But, Abhyasa International Residential School has gone a step ahead and brought out a unique Parents and Students Handbook to familiarize them with the school. A hardbound 130 plus pages, creatively executed, a high quality book not many institutions can boast of talks about its origin, philosophy, vision, values, curriculum, campus life and many other things. This picturesque book is a delight to go through about it and brings the school life live to the reader. The book is unveiled in a press conference held in city today by its Chairman of the Board Dr. R. Prabhakar Rao, who is a Retired, Director General of Police. Speaking on the occasion Dr. R. Prabhakar Rao said Abhyasa International Residential School has just completed 18 Years in her Mission of preparing the Children for Life with her Vision of
“Imbuing Confidence, Creativity and Character for a Competent India”
. The unique feature of Abhyasa school Curriculum is the
“Social Responsibility”
that the school imbues among her students… This is what sets the school apart from the commercial milieu ! The school has adopted the Harijanwada of Toopran in the nearby vicinity and Abhyasa students regularly interact with the socially and economically disadvantaged sections of the society to mould them, guide them, teach the children, adults, conduct medical camps and also runs a free school for the most deserving students of the village! Abhyasa will also be initiating a 24+7 medical diagnostic clinic on her Campus, for the villagers of Toopran, by this year- end, in collaboration with the US based NetdotOrange Software company that would actually provide a free online diagnostic services to the poor and the rich alike – to monitor their health status on a regular basis, without visiting doctors or any corporate hospitals. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Vinaayaka Kalleetla, Founder Principal of the school said most schools run campaigns on the publicity of their board exam results – showcasing the 96 percent result of their students. But little do most of us stop to think : “If a child has to score 96 percent in an examination, that covers hardly 0.5 percent of the complete knowledge available in this Universe – then how much that child would have actually neglected others learning processes in life and concentrated 100 percent on that 0.5 percent knowledge only to secure 96 percent in board exams and at the end of it all this 96 percent certificate is only a passport to Good Universities and colleges and not a real certification of the Life Skills gained by the child to prepare himself or herself for life…” Abhyasa does not position herself as a school based on her board exam results… But as a school that builds the Character and Values of the student, along with the all important Leadership and Life skills necessary to be manage Life and also manage the successes in life! But that does not mean that her children are not geared for competition… The Achievements of Abhyasa in the last 17 years in the fields of academics, sports, cultural activities are all there to speak volumes about the all- round moulding of students through a Residential Gurukul form of schooling… It is normally easy for a school with more than a thousand student strength to achieve feats in various fields…. As it is most of the time observed that children who excel in academics do not have time to excel in sports or culture… And students who specialise in sports usually do not do well in academics…. But, at Abhyasa, with a very moderate strength of just 450 students, the school leads the charts in all the major sports, cultural and literary events of Hyderabad… And every Abhyasite excels in all the activities of the school curriculum… The records of the last 17 years are there to share in the school Handbook! Thanks to the personal attention and the advantageous
teacher : Student ratio of 1:09
… A bird is good at flying, a fish is good at swimming and a monkey is good at climbing trees… Without any schooling at all… But what differentiates a human being from these animals is that a Man and a Woman can climb like a monkey, swim like a fish, fly like a bird… Provided he / she is trained in all the life skills… Abhyasa is doing just that!…. Inspired by the ideals of Sri Sathya Sai Baba who has done yeoman service to Mankind, Abhyasa is imbuing human values and social responsibility among her students – for – after all – even for those who feel that education is for employability – No organisation can just hire Hands and Heads to work for them! They get a complete human being along with his / her emotions, character, attitudes that influence their work.
Please Note:
Abhyasa – a school of 18 years standing that admits only 450 students at any given time, with a record performance and rated as the best ICSE school by a leading Mumbai Publication, is conducting this press conference, not for any publicity (our seats are already full) but this effort is to share our experience and expertise with the larger Society – those who are also willing to participate in the noble task of Human Transformation – rather than mere student strength maximisation or campus expansion…

Music Fest 2013-2014

According to the tradition, Abhyasa hosts a variety of Cultural and Sports events through out the year and one of them is the Music Fest.

This year the theme was to showcase the different forms of music. The beginning was done with Ganesh Vandana (as it was the day for Ganesh Nimarjan) sung by group. And then was Hindustani Vocal classical music and its use in Indian Cinema. How different Ragas are used by successful music Directors in Bollywood Films. The Raga which was chosen was “Puriya Dhanashree”. It started with a pure classical and then went on to show how the same Raga was used in the Movie “Rangeela” by the Legendary Oscar Award Winner Mr A R Rahman. As it was also a Parents Visit day, we had a Large audience and it was scheduled to be done in Open Amphi theatre, but due to heavy rainfall we had to shift it to the play Pen. The Audience was Mesmerized by the performance given by Master Dhanush Gontla (Class X) and by Miss Radhe shree Sarda (Class XII) and Sakshi Handa (Class VII).

Then it was Time for the Carnatic Form of Music. It was a Group performance and the group gave an outstanding performance and was greatly applauded by one and all.

The Third one was truly an explosive performance of western Music. The group really seemed to have worked hard over this one. It was perfectly synchronized and the accompaniment (Guitar & Drums) was quite a treat to the ears. It was greeted by a thunderous round of applause by the crowd.

Then came the performance by Mast. Nikhil on his violin. It was a classical performance and he showcased his talents in front of Hundreds of people. It was a very serene performance and the crowd really loved it.

The most surprising part came later at the end of Programme when Vinaayak Sir came up to the stage to make an announcement. Abhyasa received 2nd Rank in Andhra Pradesh in all Residential Schools and an Over all Ranking of 13th in India by a survey done by Education World. The parents as well as students cheered thunderously as Vinaayak Sir Displayed the Certificate.

As soon as this program was over all the students and teachers proceeded for Ganesh Nimarjan. It was pouring but little did it affect the enthusiasm of Abhyasites. It was dance all the way with a troop of band. The day ended with loud cheers of Ganapati Bappa Morya – agle baras tu jaldi aa.

Children's Day Celebrations At Abhyasa School 2013-2014
Every Year on 14th of November Children’s day is celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm in Abhyasa. With almost 100 Percent participation from the Teacher’s and all Administration Staff it was natural to be a big hit and huge success. In the morning a huge display board was secretly prepared and kept at Katya’s Korner to welcome the student’s, who had a pleasant surprise to see a well decorated board with balloons and 3D letters carved saying HAPPY CHILDREN’S DAY from ABHYASA Staff. In the Morning session all students went for a fun assembly which was hosted by the Teachers. The Student’s really enjoyed as Teacher’s had prepared a comedy script specially for a hearty laugh. Evening the program started with an Invocation Classical Dance which was choreographed by our Dance Teacher Mr Srinivas and supported by Teachers and Staff. It was a graceful performance & all the teachers and staff who participated had done their homework well. It was well applauded by all the student’s. After that it was the turn of Newly Joined Social Teacher Ms Jasmi along with Mr Srinivas and literally the crowd was mesmerized by their Graceful movements. Then came the fun part wherein Teachers prepared comedy short Drama’s in Telugu, Hindi and English and the entire student’s enjoyed the Drama’s and laughed to their heart’s content. A solo devotional song was performed by Mrs Suvarna Dasradhi which made everyone close their eyes and feel the divine presence for a while. After that it was again fun time. A special Dance choreographed by Mrs Ranjana our New Dean. Around 15 Teachers supported this medley Dance and it so enthralled the crowd that loud cheering was heard of Once More which echoed for a long time after. Immediately after that it was Mr Seshu’s Team who performed a Medley of Devotional and film Song’s. It was a wonderful Performance supported by 6 Teachers and Vinaayak Sir Himself sung a devotional song and ended the performance with a foot tapping number “Mustafa Mustafa” which made all the student’s dance. A solo Bhajan was sung by Mrs Sonal which was greatly applauded by all. After that a Solo Performance by Mr Seshu literally took us back in time as he sung a melodious Mohd Rafi Song”Likhe jo khat tujhe jo teri yaad mein”. The last but not the least was performance by PET’s Mr Anji and Mr Kishen. They performed on a Korean style dance with a lot of stunts on the stage and entertained the crowd with their dance as well. It was a perfect combination of Strength and Grace. The best part of the programme came when One Sardarji came on stage and started dancing with other ladies. It was such a huge surprise. Everyone was trying to guess who this was. The identity was kept secret and it was like a cyclone on stage. The dance was a pure Bhangra and everyone danced to the tune. It was not revealed even after the show who the person was. It was our respected Murthy Madam who enacted as a Sardar. Her energy was so wonderful and graceful and no one could guess that it was her. After all the performances, everyone came on stage and it was full Dance , Masti and Music for all. Thanks to Mr Ratna Kumar for the wonderful compering done throughout the program, also thanks to Mr Santhosh Kumar for dubbing and mixing of audios and to everyone who has helped in logistic support.

Bhagwan Shri Satya Sai Baba's Jayanti Celebrations 23rd, Nov 2013

On 23rd of November we celebrated Shri Satya Sai Baba’s Jayanti. All students except 10th and 12th class went for Nagar Sankeertan in the morning.

A beauty Palkhi was decorated to carry Baba’s photo. The children started with Vedic Chanting and filled the air with Spirituality. Mr Bhasker (Dy. Dean) took initiative and started with Bhajans and was supported with Khanjira. It sounded so wonderful. The entire atmosphere became so spiritual that the Gods too showered their blessings in form of sprinkles.

We went through Toopran for around Three Kilometres carrying the well decorated Palkhi which carried Bhagwan Shri Satya Sai’s Photo. People from all the houses came out to take Darshan of Baba. It was a heavenly morning and I am sure everyone involved felt the love of Bhagwan Shri Satya Sai Baba’s blessings.

Parents Picnic & Commerce Activity

According to the tradition a Parent’s Picnic is arranged every year in this month. A special site is chosen for the picnic where all the Parents and Students and Staff come together and have a day full of activities and fun.

It’s more like a huge family gathering. Students were preparing for this event, days before and had planned their commerce activity accordingly. There were mainly two groups from students Shadow and Blitz. In this commerce activity they plan different activities wherein the students contribute money and arrange entertaining programs and earn profits which are then used for Social activities as Gram Seva. What a noble cause and insight.

That is why we say that we focus on the overall development of your child. Students from IX, X, XI and XII mainly participate in this activity and from this early age they are aware of their social responsibilities. These values are imbibed on them at this young age and it will always be a way of life for them as they grow older. I am sure very few schools must be providing this kind of culture and education to their students.

Although it was all arranged by the students it was done very professionally. The elder students booked an entire Theatre for a movie which was specially screened for Abhyasa students. There was huge participation from all the students and almost the whole school went to watch the movie on a Sunday. The show was a grand success. Then it was time for the Juniors. They too planned a Mega Event. They brought in a Star from Telugu Film Industry (Mr. Ramesh) who has achieved fame in Telugu film industry as a comedian. It was a full Two and Half Hours Program and the entire school enjoyed it. Then it was DJ Night organized by the seniors. A professional DJ was called for the night and everyone danced to their hearts content on their tunes. Apart from these activities the students planned stalls at the picnic spot. It was all so planned that you would not believe that this all was arranged by students. They bargained with dealers and distributors and bought goods at a discounted rate, and so much of variety items from eatables to clothes, from modern games to electronic gadgets.

They even had Dominoes Pizzas and Burgers from MacDonald’s, fashion accessories and what not. It looked like a small town fare where in shopkeepers were advertising their products on mike and pulling crowds towards them.

The main tent was ready for entertaining the parents by programs arranged by the school. Music was being played and parents were invited to showcase their talents in dance, music and others. Lot of parents came forward voluntarily and participated in the activities and displayed their sportsman spirit. The juniors had arranged a treasure hunt to add spice to the event and parents were seen frantically searching for clues all over the place. Parents flied Paper Planes in the tent. These activities were organized by Mr. Ravindran with the help of students. There were prizes for the winners. Lot of games and quiz were arranged to keep the parents entertained in the main tent.

A sumptuous lunch was organized by Abhyasa for the parents. And soon after a short presentation was given by our Founder Principal and Director Mr. Vinaayaka Kalleetla in which he introduced “Anusandhan” which is a tool through which you can have access to your child’s activities see his development and monitor what all is going on with him in the school. It contains all the details in every area like academics, phone call schedules, sports, tuck-shop, discipline, sickness, health & hygiene and grading is done for each and every aspect. So many facilities are there which you can easily access through Anusandhan. Very few schools or educational institutions in India must be having such kind of user friendly systems where the parents can access their children’s daily routines and keep track of their wards developments. Mr Vinaayaka Kalleetla made an appeal to parents to access this facility regularly to have complete knowledge about their wards developments.

After the presentation, Snacks were being served and it was farewell time. In all everyone enjoyed the picnic and many parents thanked for the thoughtfulness of arranging such activities wherein they could spend some quality time with their children in such beautiful surroundings. The parents too had a change in their daily hustle and bustle.

Abhyasa Students visit to Orphanage and Old Age Home

Students of Abhyasa have an opportunity to do things differently. As Gram Seva and Spirituality and Arts and Culture students get opportunities to visit villages and Orphanages and interact with old people in Old age Homes. This year few students got the opportunity to visit an Orphanage and Old age home at the same time. It was such a wonderful experience to be with the children. Inspite of fighting with the odds their heart warming welcome made our hearts skip a bit. Their laugh made us cry inside out.The way they greeted us calling Bhaiyya and Didi really brought tears to many of us. We danced and sang songs with them and spent some quality time with the children and it was the most worthwhile time ever spent. For all of us these memories will be cherished for our life times and surely many of the students decided that they will surely contribute to such worthy causes in their adult life.

We distributed fruits and chocolates to the children. With heavy hearts we had to leave because of time constraints. We proceeded further as we had to visit an Old age Home. On the way we had an opportunity to Visit ST Mary’s Church. The Christmas fever had already begun and the church was fully decorated. Inspite of having different faiths the serenity touched out hearts. It made us all peaceful and our wandering minds came to a halt and we could feel the almighty’s presence all around us.

With the same feeling we started our journey further. At the Old Age Home we interacted with the old people. Our hearts sank by listening to their stories. But atleast their hopes were alive because of the shelter and care provided by this facility. Really at this ripe age when one deserves maximum care and attention, how can children leave their parents? This thought saddened most of us.

We shared fruits and chocolates with them. So finally on our return journey everyone was thinking about the events and there was complete silence in our bus. These experience will surely make everyone of us a bit empathetic and compassionate for the under privileged and the needy ones and surely as we grow in life we will keep ourselves attached to such organisations and volunteer in as many activities possible. It was a special learning for students.

Abhinaya Dance Fest 2014

Indian Classical Dance should always be a part of our school-activities. This Art is not only the quintessence of Sweetness, Beauty and Power of our eternal Culture, but it is also a prayer and meditation, attracting divine Blessings, happiness and peace of mind.

To counterbalance today’s tough competition and the need to acquire best marks in school, in spite of a difficult syllabus, Dance and Music play a very important role. They soothe and relax the minds of over-stressed school-children and at the same time they educate the children and stimulate their concentration and creativity.

Indian Classical dances have its own rich tradition, immediately touching the heart, which has made them popular even far outside the country. And many foreign students are showing their interest in learning this art.

In the above context we organize and celebrate dance fest, in our Abhyasa International Residential School. Since it is a valuable treasure, and we at Abhyasa always like to keep the traditions alive. Cultural education also promotes further interest and helps discover talents among students. Thus some students may find their vocation in Indian Classical Dance If one wants to learn this important part of our Vedic culture one comes across countless disciplines, which enrich and refine the human personality and make it more and more divine. The program was conducted on 9th of February, Sunday and Chief Guest Mr Bhagvatula Sethuram Garu who is an excellent performer in Kuchipudi as well as a Professor at Telugu University presided over.

Maha Shivratri Celebrations 2014

One of the most revered religious festivals in the country and celebrated all over. Maha Shivratri (the ‘Great Night of Shiva’) is a Hindu festival celebrated every year in reverence of Lord Shiva. The Mahashivratri festival, also much popular as ‘Shivratri’ or ‘Great Night of Lord Shiva’, is observed on the 13th night/14th day in the Krishna Paksha every year on the month of Maagh according to the Hindu calendar. Maha Shivratri is associated with Marriage of Shiva and Shakti.

All these legends signify that this day is the favourite day of Lord Shiva and also throw light on the greatness of Lord Shiva and his supremacy over all other Hindu Gods and Goddesses.

Mahashivaratri also marks the night when Lord Shiva performed the ‘Tandava’, the cosmic dance.

According to another legend Samudra Manthan , Shiva saved the world from the disastrous effects of a poison that emerged as a byproduct of churning of sea (Samudra manthan), by consuming whole of it. Shiva could arrest the poison in his throat by his Yogic powers and it could not go down his body. His neck turned blue due to effect of poison on his throat and henceforth he is also called as Neela Kantha or The blue Throated.

All the Abhyasites were ready early in the morning and were beaming with enthusiasm for going to the Shiva Temple.

Whole school was chanting Bhajans and shlokas as we marched in an orderly manner to the Temple. Everyone paid their offerings in the temple.

In the afternoon our Founder Principal and Director Mr Vinaayaka Kalleetla did Homam and the entire campus was charged with the spiritual vibes. The Shiva Idol in the campus was neatly decorated a day before. The temple was also beautifully decorated with lots of Flowers and the smell of Incense sticks added extra energy to the already spiritual atmosphere. In the evening all the students were present for the Homam and everyone chanted the sacred Mantras.

In the night a select few students took part in the Jaagran and were continuously chanting Shlokas and Mantras.

Here you can see our Dean Mr Bhaskar singing Bhajans and the students following him. I am sure everyone was blessed as this festival came just before the Final Exams and all students prayed with their heart mind and soul.

Holi Celebrations in Abhyasa
Holi Celebrations in Abhyasa

One of the major festivals of India, Holi is celebrated with enthusiasm and gaiety on the full moon day in the month of Phalgun which is the month of March as per the Gregorian calendar.

Holi festival may be celebrated with various names and people of different states might be following different traditions. But, what makes Holi so unique and special is the spirit of it which remains the same throughout the country and even across the globe, wherever it is celebrated.

Preparations

Entire country wears a festive look when it is time for Holi celebration. Market places get abuzz with activity as frenzied shoppers start making preparations for the festival. Heaps of various hues of gulal and abeer can be seen on the roadside days before the festival. Pichkaris in innovative and modern design too come up every year to lure the children who wish to collect them as Holi memorabilia and of course, to drench everybody in the town.

Season of Bloom

Everybody gets delighted at the arrival of Holi as the season itself is so gay. Holi is also called the Spring Festival – as it marks the arrival of spring the season of hope and joy. The gloom of the winter goes as Holi promises of bright summer days. Nature too, it seems rejoices at the arrival of Holi and wears its best clothes. Fields get filled with crops promising a good harvest to the farmers and flowers bloom colouring the surroundings and filling fragrance in the air.

Legends

A Hindu festival, Holi has various legends associated with it. The foremost is the legend of demon King Hiranyakashyap who demanded everybody in his kingdom to worship him but his pious son, Prahlad became a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap wanted his son to be killed. He asked his sister Holika to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap as Holika had a boon which made him immune to fire. Story goes that Prahlad was saved by lord himself for his extreme devotion and evil minded Holika was burnt to ashes, for her boon worked only when she entered the fire alone.

Since that time, people light a bonfire, called Holika on the eve of Holi festival and celebrate the victory of good over evil and also the triumph of devotion to god. Children take special delight in the tradition and this has another legend attached to it. It says that there was once an ogress Dhundhi who used to trouble children in the kingdom of Prithu. She was chased away by children on the day of Holi. Therefore, children are allowed to play pranks at the time of ‘Holika Dahan’.

Some also celebrate the death of evil minded Pootana. The ogress tried to Lord Krishna as an infant by feeding it poisonous milk while executing the plan of Kansa, Krishna’s devil uncle. However, Krishna sucked her blood and brought her end. Some who view the origin of festivals from seasonal cycles believe that Pootana represents winter and her death the cessation and end of winter.

In South India, people worship Kaamadeva- the god of love and passion for his extreme sacrifice. According to a legend, Kaamadeva shot his powerful love arrow on Lord Shiva to revoke his interest in the worldly affairs in the interest of the earth. However, Lord Shiva was enraged as he was in deep mediation and opened his third eye which reduced Kaamadeva to ashes. Though, later on the request of Rati, Kaamadeva’s wife, Shiva was pleased to restore him back.

Holika Dahan

we celebrated Holi dahan on Priyanka’s playground. It was a beautiful sight to see all students pray to the lord of fire and put offerings to bring joy and happiness in their lives.

Play of Colors

Abhyasa Holi is as always special which is also environment friendly is. We do not use readymade colours which are full of chemicals and which can cause serious damage to the skin causing rashes and other infections. We make natural colours from vegetables and flowers. This year it was Beet root for red colour and Palak for green colour and then pink and yellow was from the flowers from Abhyasa. A special band was called for the celebrations and everybody danced to their heart’s content. And then there were several drums filled with colours and students enjoyed splashing coloured water on each other.

Arts and Craft Exhibition

Every year Arts and Craft Exhibition is celebrated in Abhyasa. The hard work of students in the whole year is displayed in this exhibition. One can see the creativity and talent of each student here in this exhibition. This year a very dignified personality who is a Contemporory Artist Mr Sesha Brahmam was invited as Chief Guest for this exhibition. It is assumed that Lord Brahma, the creator of the world began His creation on this day. The first day of bright half of the lunar month Chaitra is considered to be the day for Ugadi celebration, which generally falls in the months of March – April of the English calendar. The festival of Ugadi also welcomes the spring season when nature seem to be immersed in the festive mood and new leaves and new buds along with fresh breeze of spring manifold the Ugadi spirit.

The day is dedicated to Lord Brahma, the great creator of the world who began creation on this very day. It is also a belief among Hindus that Lord Vishnu incarnated in Matsya avatar on this day. As one of the major festivals of Andhra Pradesh, it gathers huge attention of public as well as the media. Celebration includes cleaning of house and surrounding, decorating entrances with green mango leaves, buying new clothes for family and various other rituals. They wake up early morning and use Sesame oil to massage their head and body, post which they take head wash and visit temples to offer their prayers. People make delicious dishes on this day which they share with their loved ones. Some places like Telangana celebrate the festival for three days.

Ugadi is famous as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra, where it is believed that new ventures started on this day or purchases made give fruitful results. In Maharashtra, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is remembered on this day, so the day is seen as one depicting valiant Marathas who return home after a glorious victory in war. They raise swastika marked metal pot tied with a silk cloth which exhibits their victory and joy after successful expeditions in war. On this day, after washing and cleaning their home, people decorate it with fresh green mango leaves and rangolis. They visit temples to offer prayers and distribute bitter Neem leaves as Prasad.

Preparations for the festival begin a week ahead. Houses are given a thorough wash. Shopping for new clothes and buying other items that go with the requirements of the festival are done with a lot of excitement.

Ugadi is celebrated with festive fervour in the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. While it is called Ugadi in Andhara and Karnataka, in Maharashtra it is known as “Gudipadava”.

On Ugadi day, people wake up before the break of dawn and take a head bath after, which they decorate, the entrance of their houses with fresh mango leaves. The green mango leaves tied to the doorway signify a good crop and general well being. It is noteworthy that one uses mango leaves and coconuts (as in a ‘Kalasam’, to initiate any puja) only on auspicious occasions to propitiate gods.

People also splash fresh cow dung water on the ground in front of their house and draw colourful floral designs. This is a common sight in every household. People perform the ritualistic worship to God invoking his blessings before they start off with the New Year. They pray for their health, wealth and prosperity and success in business too.

It is a season for raw mangoes spreading its aroma in the air and the fully blossomed Neem tree that makes the air healthy. Also, jaggery made with fresh crop of sugarcane adds a renewed flavour to the typical dishes associated with Ugadi.

“Ugadi Pachchadi” is one such dish that has become synonymous with Ugadi. It is made of new jaggery, raw mango pieces, Neem flowers and new tamarind. The inner significance of this preparation is to indicate that life is a mixture of good and bad, joy and sorrow and all of them have to be treated alike.

All experiences have to be treated with equanimity. Every one should make a resolve that he will face calmly whatever happens in this year, accepting it with good grace and welcoming everything. Consider everything as for one’s own good. Men should rise above sorrow and happiness, success and failure. This is the primary message of the Ugadi festival.

In Andhra Pradesh, eatables such as “Pulihora”, “Bobbatlu” and preparations made with raw mango go well with the occasion. In Karnataka too, similar preparations are made but called “Puliogure” and “Holige”. Here at Abhyasa too we had chanting of stotrams such as Hanuman Chalisa and Madhurashtakam and Lingashtakam. Then the students also sang Bhajans. All the students went for Nagar Sankeertan in the morning inside the campus with chanting of Shlokas and Mantras. After this shlokas there was Homam followed by a Special Lunch for all. The new year began with a hope and enthusiasm for the best to occur in everyone’s lives.

Graduation Ceremony 2014

We celebrated the Graduation ceremony for the 10th and 12th class students, which was also a farewell to the outgoing students. It was really a nostalgic moment for everyone as most of the students were here for Seven to Eight years and Abhyasa was like a home to them. We had specially invited Mr Kondal Rao Garu as a Chief Guest for the function. Sri Kondala Rao Garu was born on 3 rd November 1936, he did his B.E in civil engineering from the batch of 1957 at Govt College of engineering Kakinada .He has worked in various capacities and retired as Chief Engineer, panchayati raj on 31st October 1995. He is currently working as technical advisor to government of Andhra Pradesh since November 1995. He has executed all projects of Sri Sathya Sai drinking water supply from 1995 onwards. His family consists of his wife, two sons, daughter-in-laws and four grand children. His sons are engineers as well and are working aboard in USA & Canada. Senior Technical Consultant to Govt. of Andhra Pradesh for the Sri Sathya Sai Water Supply Project, and also the Chief Engineer supervising the Chennai Water Supply Project. Sri Kondal Rao Garu had been closely working with L&T in the execution of these projects. He is very closely connected to Puttaparthi even now.

Some of the Excerpts from his speech are given below:- He said that he was very happy to visit this school and felt envy for the students who get opportunity to study in schools like Abhyasa. He shared how he got in touch with Sri Satya Sai Baba. In 1991 he got an opportunity to meet Baba. Swami told him that there has to so much of love for oneself and for others to become a pure being and this purity leads to divinity. Service of the poor is also very important. He always sent students to villages to serve the poor and told that the happiness you get one will never forget in his lifetime. Swami always shared that you should always help the down trodden and if you have excess money share it with poor people, If you don’t have money then you can offer food and if you can’t even offer that you can atleast offer your prayers for the poor people. Swami always prayed Samasta Loka Sukhino Bhavantu. He explained to me that work is worship and duty is god.

Swami had a vision for providing drinking water to everyone. As a chief Engineer he called me to discuss about the drinking water project and asked to make an estimate for drinking water project for Anantapur. I took a week and did all the calculations and it came to around 90 Crores. But after one more week of calculations it came to around 180 Crores. Swami called me and asked what happened about the project and I explained him that the cost of the project would be 180 Crores and it would take a long time to get sanction from the Government for the same. Swami called me and said ok let us go ahead with the project and asked me to get in touch with the authorities. I put the project in front of the authorities and it was sanctioned immediately. This was a real shock for me, getting sanction for 180 crore project within sucha short span of time was a real miracle. And then swami said that I want this project to be completed by 23-11-1995. This is swami’s birthday which was just 8 months time. Normally a project with such magnitude would take 3 to 4 year’s time. But I said to Swami that I will try my level best. Getting approvals from different departments is very difficult. But with swami’s blessings everything went smoothly and we completed the project in surprising time. Unless there is divine intervention this cannot happen.

Then again Chennai was facing Drinking water problems and Swami asked me to work out a project for Chennai. I said to him that it does not come under Andhra Pradesh but he said you just get in touch with the Authorities in Chennai. So I contacted the Authorities and asked them to work on this project. They worked out a project which would cost 1000 Crores to provide 1 TMC of water and their requirement was 12 TMC water. I worked on the same project which was getting water from Krishna River with a 153 Km pipeline and made a project of 200 Crores and with a supply of 12 TMC of water supply. This is only because of the divine blessings. Mr Kondal Rao Garu said life is all about learning. It is an unending process. You should study vedas. Lot of foreign countries are adopting the knowledge that is there in vedas in their day to day life. 8000 years ago it was mentioned in the vedas how to manufacture an aeroplane. Then Mr Kondal Rao Garu talked about culture. He gave a simple example. He told how we follow foreign culture in everything. India is a hot country and we try to follow the exercise regimen which is followed by athletes in foreign countries. This is not going to suit our environment. As students you should be disciplined and make it a part of your life which will help you when you grow up and will help you settle in your life. Finally he said give a lot of respect to your parents and your teachers who give you knowledge and wisdom. Always give as much as you can to these people in your life. And achieve big things in your life and try to become scientist and make our country proud.

Then our Founder Principal and Director gave his speech and said that this batch has really made everyone proud with their achievements in the year that has passed. Especially he mentioned the massive wins in Horlicks and the A. P Regional sports meet. He said that we have with us two great personalities and Sons of Andhra Pradesh Mr Kondal Rao Garu and Mr Prabhakar Rao Garu who served as DGP of Andhra Pradesh and who is also serving on our Director Body. It is only through service you can enjoy fulfilling life. Whenever we face problems we always run to Astrologers and temples but the people who do service of the poor never have to go to these places. They have found that happiness in life through service. He also thanked Mr Kondal Rao Garu and all other Chief Guests who shared the Dias for giving their precious time and sharing their wisdom with our students. He also thanked Mr Shastri Garu who also was the Guests, and ended the speech with Samasta Loka Sukhinou Bhavantu.

Some students also shared their views and became nostalgic as it dawned on them that they are going to leave the campus within a day or Two. There was some entertainment program after this and a lavish Dinner was served to the Guests and all the parents who attended the function. It was a grand affair.

Aradhana Mohotsav which was organised on 24th of April 2014

“All good things have to come to an end”. It was time to bid adieu two outstanding batches namely Amarthya (X) and Ardent (XII).

On 24th of April every year Shri Sathya Sai Baba’s “Aradhana Mohotsav” is celebrated across the world. We at Abhyasa also organise a programme which starts with Nagar Sankeertana in the morning. This year all senior students went to Nagar Sankeertana early morning in the campus. Every body was singing Bhajans and chanting Shlokas and Mantras in remembrance of Shri Satya Sai Baba. The prayer hall was beautifully decorated with lots of flowers and lamps. It was a divine sight to see hundreds of lamps lit in the evening in front of Baba’s photo.

In the evening we do have Narayan Seva. We had invited poor people from Toopran and served them with clothes and food. We had invited Shri Dinkar who is a Master Trainer and has given training and motivation sessions to all big corporate companies. Shri Dinkar is a great devotee of Shri Satya Sai Baba and has spent lot of time with Baba. He shared the importance of the joy of giving and told that whatever way we can serve the poor we should always try and give as we don’t know what difference this is going to bring in the life of the person to whom we are giving. He also shared that Baba used to tell everyone that if you help the poor then I will take care of your Seven Generations.

At one point he became nostalgic by remembering many miraculous incidences while his stay at Puttaparthi. He also said that all the students who have got opportunity to study at Abhyasa are lucky to have this opportunity as no other school in the country follows the tradition and culture like we do at Abhyasa. Our Founder Principal and Director also shared his views on the day.

He spoke about the importance of lighting lamps on every occasion and said that with the help of one lamp we can light thousands of lamps and spread the light across. Like wise every student from Abhyasa is also like a lamp that will spread the light across the world one day. Everyone offered their prayers to Baba’s photo. After there was a special movie screening on the life of Shri Satya Sai Baba named The Glory of his story- The Advent, while the students were watching the movie there was lightning going on as if Baba was sending his blessings to everyone at Abhyasa. After the movie there was a special dinner organised for the guests as well as the students.
