Raksha Bandhan Celebrations
On 26th August 2018, Abhyasa students celebrated Raksha Bhandan, a hindu festival that celebrates the love, affection and care between brothers and sisters. It was a very special day at our home Abhyasa. Rakhi is the physical symbol of the emotions involved with the festival. It is the sentiments that matter on this day and what can be a better expression of the sisterly love than a self made rakhi. It always adds that special touch to make one lovingly at home. The girl students started preparing rakhis from a week before using silk and cotton threads, beads, sequins, kundans, pearls, scissors, glue etc. On the special day, dressed in their best traditional dresses, the sisters prepared pooja thali with rakhis , sweets and diyas and tied rakhis on the wrists of the brothers and wished for their well being. On the other hand, the brothers acknowledged their love with a promise that they will remain by their sisters' side and protect them from every fall and down throughout the life. In Indian tradition, the frangible thread of rakhi is considered even stronger than an iron chain as it strongly binds a brother and a sister in the circumference of mutual love and trust. The celebrations ended with songs, dances and sumptuous dinner.
